Dress Code

Return to the Summer Hub

Overview

The GVS dress code balances individual choice with a degree of uniformity and consistency in student dress, ensuring that clothing does not become a focus or distraction during the school day. It offers comfort and practicality at younger ages while recognizing the need for more formal dress for older students.

  • Students are not permitted to wear any clothing or accessories that display political sayings, inappropriate words, or images. This includes, but is not limited to, content that suggests or portrays violence, illegal acts, or substances.
  • Clothing must be neat, clean, and in good repair.
  • Hair must be kept neat, and may not be dyed an unnatural color.
  • Nails must be kept clean and a natural length, consistent with a school environment.
  • Students may not wear makeup or have dangling or excessive jewelry.
  • With some announced exceptions, the last Friday of each month is a “Dress-Down Day."

Where to Purchase
Please refer to Green Vale’s designated section within Lands' End Uniform as a visual guide for the approved color and style options. Other colors and styles are not permissible for wear at school. Using Green Vale's preferred school number (900065780) offers the option of GVS seal embroidery and a portion of sales is automatically donated back to Green Vale. Please note that many of the approved colors and styles are available elsewhere such as Athleta, Brooks Brothers, Gap, Ralph Lauren, Target, Tommy Hilfiger and others.

Please Note:
  • Cartwheel/bike shorts or leggings must be worn under any dress or skirt that falls above the knee.
  • Sweaters must be a solid color and may not feature stripes, graphics, or motifs such as tie-dye. Please refer to approved colors for sweaters.
  • Skirts and jumpers not from Land's End must have similar styling.
  • Absolutely no plaid skirts or jumpers may be worn.
  • Sweatshirts (pullover or hoodie) of any kind (including GVS PE attire) may not be worn to/in class in 1st-8th Grades.
  • Leggings are not permitted without a skirt or jumper. In 4th Grade and up, pants are expected to have pockets and may not be styled as "stretch pants".
