In keeping with Green Vale's commitment to introducing projects that combine multiple lessons and disciplines, Julie Rooney's 6th Grade info-tech class used the United Nations Goals for Sustainable Development as a platform for discussion of global issues, for working on video editing skills, and for developing persuasive communications to spread awareness within Green Vale. From the 17 global goals set forth by the United Nations General Assembly to be addressed by 2030, the students divided into pairs based on preferred topics and each pair set to work on a video message articulating the importance of their assigned global issues related to aspects of inequality, poverty, and environmental protection. They used WeVideo, a web-based video editing platform they first used to present their term papers as 5th Graders. The students culled appropriate facts to explain their issue from the U.N. website and matched them with free-use archival video footage. Finally, the individual videos were strung together into a 15-minute public service announcement. Several students volunteered to present the context for the video during Upper School assembly, asking their peers: "How old will you be in 2030 and what do you want the world to look like?"
