Practice Makes "Perfect" for Green Vale Voices

At the NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) Major Ensembles Festival at Hofstra University in May, the soprano/alto division of Green Vale Voices select chorus earned the top possible honor: “Gold with Distinction.” The chorus, which rehearses before and after school, performed for a panel of judges and received oral and written evaluations as well as a rating after performing three pieces: “I am a Cloud”, “Where’er You Walk”, and “John Henry.” A “Gold Rating”, which Green Vale received last year, recognizes outstanding technical and artistic skill across each of the following evaluative categories: tone, intonation, balance, technique, accuracy, diction, and interpretation. “Gold with Distinction” means that Green Vale performed at Gold-level standard across all three of their songs.
