To reinforce cross-curricular studies of ancient Greek and Roman civilizations, the 6th Grade recently spent a day at the Metropolitan Museum of Art with teachers from the GVS history, English, and art departments.
The program began with the students self-touring the galleries and completing an art and writing activity booklet. The Met's docents then gave a guided tour, focusing on classical sculpture, objects, portraiture, frescoes, and artifacts. The program also included an original scavenger hunt designed by GVS teachers to further engage the students with the exhibits. The group enjoyed lunch on the famed museum steps before heading back to Long Island.
