With Spanish beginning as early as Nursery where words and phrases are used to teach movement and dance, Green Vale students quickly gain significant proficiency with their world language of choice.
6th Grade Spanish students have begun to read "Pobre Ana", the story of a California girl from a humble home who learns to appreciate her family after spending a summer in Mexico. At 45 pages long, it is equally a challenge and proud milestone each year. Teacher Kevin Kane explains: "Without fail, the students are amazed at their ability to read a book entirely in Spanish. Having the opportunity to read a book that is usually used in advanced 7th grade classes absolutely shows the strength of the program and the talent of the students here."
The story is taught through acting out scenes, identifying important events and vocabulary, and the sheer motivation of the students.
