Health Monitoring

Community Pledge

All families must commit to support Green Vale’s health and safety protocols, and must agree to keep their children home when they are not feeling well, have COVID-like symptoms, or have potentially been exposed to the virus. Families are required to complete and sign the GVS Community Pledge located within the Parent Portal/My Child/Forms before returning to school.

Daily Screenings

Parents are asked to review their child(ren)'s health status and any symptoms prior to sending them to school each day. Please err on the side of caution and consult Nurse Sharon with any questions.

Families will no longer be required to verify symptoms via a daily electronic screener form, and there will no longer be temperature checking at the door.

All visitors will have a temperature check and complete a symptom/exposure questionnaire. They will be required to sanitize hands upon entry to all buildings and wear a face covering at all times. Parents will not be permitted to enter any building except when they have a scheduled appointment or meeting. This includes drop-offs and pick-ups.

Hygiene

GVS will follow all hygiene recommendations of the CDC and DOH. Students will be required to wash hands at the following times:
•  When entering any building
•  Before and after eating
•  Before and after recess
•  Before returning to class from a special
•  At dismissal as they leave their classroom or building
•  Whenever hands are visibly soiled  (must use soap and water)
•  After using the restroom

Touchless hand sanitizing dispensers have been installed throughout campus for times when hand washing is impractical.

Illness & Quarantine

If a child reports or displays any COVID-like symptoms, he/she and any GVS siblings must remain home until there is a diagnosis for the ill child.

If a student or employee misses school or leaves school early due to COVID-19 symptoms, they may only return to school:

  • with a doctor's written explanation of diagnosis;
  • with a negative lab-based PCR test if testing was advised;
  • after having no fever (without the use of fever-reducers) and having felt well for 24 hours.

If a student or employee is diagnosed with COVID-19, they must report the diagnosis to the GVS nurse immediately and isolate at home for at least ten days since they first had symptoms and return only when they have been fever-free for at least 24 hours and all other symptoms have improved, including cough and shortness of breath. They must also submit a "release of isolation notice" from the Department of Health.

If a student from a class is COVID-19 positive, that class will be considered a “close contact” and quarantine at home for the next ten days. Other individuals are considered “close contacts” if they were within six feet for at least 15 minutes over a 24-hour period with a person with a confirmed COVID-19 case.

GVS siblings of a quarantined class may continue to attend school.  No testing is required. Classmates of these siblings will not need to quarantine unless the sibling also tests positive.

Vaccinated students and teachers who are asymptomatic may attend school and must test on day three following any exposure.

If any community member tests positive for COVID-19, we will be in immediate contact with the Department of Health. Depending on circumstances within our immediate and greater community, the School is prepared to move a cohort(s), grade(s), or all students to the Online Learning platform.

For expectations involving quarantine of family members due to travel, please refer to this guide from the CDC.

Nurse's Office

GVS has developed protocols for caring for a student, faculty, or staff member who develops COVID-19 symptoms during the school day.  These protocols include:
•  Ensuring that students waiting to be picked up remain under the visual supervision of a physically distanced adult;
•  PPE including face shield for nurse office staff
•  When treating suspected or confirmed COVID-19 cases, gloves, gown, and a fit-tested N-95 respirator will be used if available (otherwise surgical face mask and face shield), as well as eye protection.
•  Frequent cleaning and disinfection as specified by CDC.
