GVS has partnered with Yale-trained SEL expert Lindsay Weiner to bring a series of SEL-related workshops to Green Vale parents throughout the school year. Lindsay is an independent consultant who works with schools and families on implementing Social Emotional Learning. She also works for Yale's SEL program, RULER, as a parent liaison in Westport, CT schools. She is an experienced teacher who taught 3rd and 5th Grades in NYC public schools and Pre-K in Westport.

The Parent Collective offers prenatal and parenting classes in Manhattan, Fairfield County (CT), and Huntington, Long Island with a fresh approach that helps couples establish friendships among others living locally with children the same age and/or due at the same time. TPC is an alternative to other "one and done" childbirth and parenting classes.

"Success Strategies for Working Parents"

Dowling is founder and CEO of {Workparent}, whose mission is to provide working mothers and fathers, and the organizations that employ them, with the information and tools they need to succeed. Her passion is "to change the conversation around working parenthood." She is also a speaker, professor, and author who has written for  The Harvard Business Review, The New York Times, and The Washington Post.

Her session at Green Vale will offer ten simple strategies that all working parents can use immediately to build more satisfying and successful lives. You will leave this session with: 

  • Actionable tips for meeting the toughest working-parent challenges and effectively balancing home and professional responsibilities; 
  • Techniques for communicating more effectively with colleagues, caregivers, and children;
  • A greater sense of control over your calendar and career; and
  • Connections to other working parents in the Green Vale community.

"Strong Hands, Strong Minds: How Parents can Reinforce Fine Motor Development”
moderated by Harvey Bass, GVS Technology Department

Harvey Bass is currently working on a PhD. in Information Science from Long Island University. His dissertation deals with using assistive technology to reduce or eliminate problem behavior in adolescents who have been diagnosed as autistic. He also holds MS and MBA degrees.

He will be joined by Melissa Noga, GVS Math Department, who uses manipulatives in her work as a supplemental/enrichment math specialist in the Lower School division. In addition, Tricia Allen will offer physiological expertise as an occupational therapist. 
 

Topics will include:

  • The impact of recreational technology on fine motor skill development in today’s children
  • Fine motor skill development at Green Vale
  • Introduction of activity box and demonstration by occupational therapist Tricia Allen
  • The life-long benefits of improved fine motor skill development – Harvey Bass

Attendees will receive a free box of manipulatives to use with children at home.

A 90-minute program includes a small group campus tour led by the Division Director for the grade of interest, remarks by Head of School Jesse Dougherty, and a Q & A session moderated by a panel of our Upper School students.

Kindergarten Screening Visits

Children will gather in small groups with one of our Kindergarten teachers and a learning specialist for tailored activities that will help us get to know your child. Parents will have an opportunity to have a Coffee & Conversation session with our Early Childhood Director and then take a tour of our Early Childhood Center and newly renovated playground.

Beginning Drop-In Days

Monday-Friday  |  9:00-10:30 am
Please join us for a complimentary "Mommy & Me" experience on a weekday at your convenience. Beginnings sessions are from 9:00-10:30 Monday through Friday. All adults and their children (7-24 months) are invited to participate in a Beginnings session and learn more about Green Vale's early childhood programs.
Advance RSVPs are required.
