Librarians' Resources

An updated, annual list created by the Association for Library Service to Children (a division of the American Library Association) divided into grade levels, accompanied by summaries.

SLJ's editors selected the best books of 2019.

A worldwide collaboration of titles suggested by children, young adults, and educators.

A list of great reading suggestions including notable social studies books, STEM
books, oustanding science books, and diverse kids' books. A motivational message by the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature appears in the “Reading Without Walls” section.

Classics for Kids: Another list by the reputable Common Sense Media group listing classic titles not to be missed. Also included are bibliographies such as “50 Books All Kids Should Read Before They’re 12” as well as articles to guide parents including “How to Raise a Reader”.

Summer Reading List: This bibliography is accompanied by book discussion prompts to start meaningful conversations between parent and child. Along with reviews of each title in the “parents say” and “kids say” sections, Common Sense Media also provides lists of best movies, games, apps, websites, tv, etc. to guide parents.

This is the place to come if you’re looking for something to get a guy reading. We’ve collected recommendations from teachers, librarians, booksellers, publishers, parents, and guys themselves. These are the books that guys have said they like. We’ve gathered and grouped them to make them easier to find.

Capstone Interactive offers free access to thousands of ebooks that can be used with a laptop, desktop computer, or iPad. They also offer “read aloud” functionality similar to Audible…perfect for long car rides this summer. We particularly like their selection of non-fiction books, as these can be difficult to find for young readers. To read offline download the Capstone Interactive app.
