books, oustanding science books, and diverse kids' books. A motivational message by the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature appears in the “Reading Without Walls” section.

An updated, annual list created by the Association for Library Service to Children (a division of the American Library Association) divided into grade levels, accompanied by summaries.

The SLJ review editors culled the best 71 titles from the year’s 428 starred books.

It wasn’t easy but the final list represented “works that rose to the top”. The best of 2018 will appear in December.

Summer Reading List: This bibliography is accompanied by book discussion prompts to start meaningful conversations between parent and child. Along with reviews of each title in the “parents say” and “kids say” sections, Common Sense Media also provides lists of best movies, games, apps, websites, tv, etc. to guide parents.
