Packing with Purpose: 6th Grade Joins LuHi’s Fight Against Hunger

Green Vale's 6th Grade took part in the annual LuHi Meal Packing Event, joining students from across Long Island to address food insecurity. Over the course of the day, our students packed 6,136 meals.

The atmosphere was focused and collaborative. Tables were lined with food packets, students worked in teams, and each completed box was a step closer to helping families in need—locally and globally.

The LuHi meal packing event has become a meaningful tradition for the 6th Grade, blending community engagement with a sense of shared responsibility. Participating alongside peers from local schools, our students saw the impact that comes from working together with a common goal.

Service learning is a consistent thread throughout the Upper School experience at Green Vale—woven into the curriculum through opportunities that connect students to real-world needs. The LuHi event is one such example, offering a reminder that character is shaped not only in the classroom, but through experiences that connect us to something larger.
