First Graders Shine in "The Great Kapok Tree"

Our 1st Graders took the stage at The Harris Theater for a wonderful performance of "The Great Kapok Tree," bringing this beloved story to life with enthusiasm and heart. Through their storytelling, they shared an important message about conservation and the impact we all have on the world around us.

Based on Lynne Cherry’s book, the play follows rainforest animals as they plead with a woodcutter to spare their home, showing the interconnectedness of nature and the power of voices—no matter how small. The students fully embraced their roles, using expressive movement, dialogue, and song to captivate the audience.

Beyond the performance itself, this experience gave students the opportunity to build confidence, collaborate with peers, and develop self-expression. Learning lines, working as a team, and performing in front of an audience are all valuable skills that will serve them well beyond the stage.

A huge thank you to our faculty and families for making this moment possible—your support helped create a magical morning that our young performers will never forget!
