Empowering Families: Navigating Technology & Digital Citizenship

In today’s world, digital citizenship is more important than ever—especially for young learners who are beginning to explore the vast digital landscape. To support families in navigating this sometimes challenging space, Lower School recently hosted a Parent Coffee for 4th and 5th Grade families, led by Director of Library Services Karenn Ressa and Instructional Technology Teacher Julie Rooney.

The session focused on helping parents guide their children in becoming responsible digital citizens, covering essential topics such as online safety, screen time balance, and fostering positive digital habits. As students become more independent with technology, it’s crucial for families to have the tools and knowledge to support them in making thoughtful, ethical choices online.

Throughout the discussion, parents gained practical strategies and valuable resources to help set boundaries, encourage critical thinking about digital content, and promote healthy screen habits. The conversation also emphasized the importance of balancing technology with real-world interactions, ensuring that children develop strong social-emotional skills alongside their digital literacy.

Sessions like these are an invaluable resource for families, providing a space to share concerns, gain insights, and feel confident in guiding their children through the digital world. As technology continues to evolve, so does our commitment to helping students and parents navigate it with awareness, responsibility, and confidence.

At Green Vale, we believe that teaching digital citizenship is just as important as any other subject, equipping students with the skills they need to thrive in both online and offline spaces. We’re grateful to all the families who attended and look forward to continuing these meaningful conversations!
