At Green Vale, service learning is more than just an activity—it’s a powerful way for students to connect with their community, develop empathy, and understand the impact of their actions. Our 8th Graders recently had the opportunity to put these values into practice by participating in a meaningful service learning project in support of Blue Star Moms, an organization dedicated to supporting military families and veterans.
With enthusiasm and a shared sense of purpose, students worked together to cook and deliver meals to local veterans—a small but significant gesture to show gratitude for those who have served our country. The experience allowed them to gain a deeper appreciation for the sacrifices made by military families while also reinforcing the importance of giving back in a hands-on, tangible way.
Blue Star Moms is a nationwide nonprofit comprised of mothers with children who are currently serving or have served in the military. These dedicated women provide emotional and practical support to service members, veterans, and their families—ensuring that those who have given so much for our country feel seen, appreciated, and cared for. By partnering with this incredible organization, our students were able to directly contribute to a mission that embodies service, gratitude, and respect.
Service learning is a core component of the Green Vale experience, teaching students that their actions—no matter how big or small—can make a real difference. Through projects like this, they not only develop a sense of responsibility but also gain valuable insights into the power of kindness, teamwork, and community engagement.
