2013 Annual Blood Drive Update
Daphne, Tyler and I are happy to report the success of the blood drive held on April 18:
71 people came to donate
13 were deferred
6 were automated red cell donors
(a longer procedure and each pint counts for 2)
52 were whole blood donors
That means 64 units were donated! WOW!!!
I will admit that I was concerned with the increased goal of 60 and I am delighted to report that we exceeded that. We all know that it "takes a village" and our success today was just that.
Thank you to all the donors! You are the heart of the blood drive. Many of you come every year and many were first time donors. Few of you had difficulty giving in the past and yet you were still there to provide the gift of life for someone you do not even know. That is a random act of kindness!
Thank you to Daphne who organized the parent volunteers for the day. They were terrific! Thank you to Tyler who took on advertising and the student contests in addition to being on campus for a 6am setup through a 7pm break down. Thank you to Miguel, Kelly and Steve for getting the room to the right temperature and providing the tables and chairs. Thank you Priscilla for jumping in where necessary. Thank you to the student volunteers and to their teachers for allowing them to miss class. Thank you to each student who convinced someone to come in and donate.
That brings us to the ice cream competition for grades 4 through 9. 8th grade had the most donors although 9th grade did proportionally well. The results are:
Grade 4 - 9 donors
Grade 5 - 7 donors
Grade 6 - 8 donors
Grade 7 - 9 donors
Grade 8 - 13 donors
Grade 9 - 4 donors
I am full of pride for what our community accomplished today. Thank you everyone!
