Sixth Grade Students Support Local Shelter
The first annual Inter-School Exchange (ISE) Cares Dance for sixth grade students was held on January 11, 2013. For the benefit of the North Shore Sheltering Program (NSSP) in Glen Cove, students from ISE schools (Buckley,East Woods, Friends Academy, Green Vale School, LI Lutheran and Portledge School) donated clothing, food, personal hygiene items and snacks, assembled in gift bags, for men who are guests of the NSSP during the winter months. They also collected over $500 for the purchase of food at the NSSP.
The NSSP provides temporary overnight shelter to homeless men and directs those in need of housing, medical care and/or treatment, to the proper agencies and facilities. Steve Fortuna, NSSP board member, addressed the students at their dance and shared the history and mission of the NSSP. He also explained the impact the students’ generosity has on the shelter, “We are so thankful for the work you do. Know that your efforts will help the people we serve immensely.”
