The First Step to Freedom

The original, handwritten version of Abraham Lincoln's Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation was viewed by students in grades 7-9 in October at an exhibit hosted at LIU-Post.  The traveling exhibit, in honor of the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, drew students from many schools in the region.

According to Tom Marvin, Director of Upper School, "The opportunity to see the Proclamation that was issued on September 22, 1862 furthered student understanding of the historical context and importance of this document."
